Moving electromobility since 1978

In 1974, Professor Gaston Maggetto saw electric mobility as an obvious solution to the problems posed by the use of oil in transport. He established a research team and created the Department of Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology – ETEC – at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Dutch-speaking university located in Brussels, Belgium.

Ten years later they set up to journey from Brussels to the symposium of electric vehicles of Paris using the latest model of electric vehicle based on their research. It took them 20 hours at a speed of 30km/h but they reached their destination in time for the symposium!

The international cooperative effort that emerged from this experience pushed Professor Maggetto to materialize this cooperation by founding various associations such as AVERE (The European Association for Electromobility).

Today, we keep pursuing Professor Maggetto’s dream through studies, research projects and international collaborations!
